My father was sent home from hospital with 5 days approved 24 hour care, as my mother had just suffered a stroke. They were to reassess his situation after the 5th day.
The nurse showed up the first night, filled out whatever paperwork was necessary. The very next morning, an ambulance showed up at 10 am and whisked him to their facility in Conroe (we are in Houston). They still, 2 years later cannot say why they decided to pick him up. He wanted to pass at home, and he should have.
This has caused MANY issues for my mother who was his sole caretaker for years. Once at their facility, like other reviews I have read, they only doped him up. For the first time in his 89 years he couldn’t speak to us, but could hear what we were saying. He was there for 2 maybe 3 days.
We witnessed other patients come and go within the time he was there.I think VITAS took dad to their facility because they had empty beds and wanted him to die there ($$$) instead of at home.
